New Stainless Steel Integrated Servo Motor
PRESS release: May 2022
Birkerød, Denmark - JVL A/S, one of the world’s leading producers in the field of integrated servo and stepper motors, has updated it’s stainless steel integrated servo motor, MAC101, with a continuous power of 100 W and a peak power of 370 W.
Motors for the Food and Medico Industry
JVL has provided a stainless steel version of the MAC motor® series for several years. Now the time has come to upgrade the electronics to the newest version making it just as advanced and fast as its larger siblings MAC400 up to MAC4500.
Among other features this means that even with CANopen or Ethernet communications it is possible to have an ePLC™ (embedded PLC) program running in the background.
This upgrade has also enabled an option for absolute multiturn encoder, which was not previously possible with the smallest MAC motor®s with 50…134 W RMS power.
Absolute Multiturn Encoder based on the Harvesting Principle
The newest absolute multiturn encoder is utilizing the energy harvesting system based on the Wiegand principle. This means there is no backup battery that can run flat and no complex gears, so it is maintenance-free. If the motor shaft is rotated while power is off, it creates enough energy to wake up a small chip which will record the position change and go to sleep again when the movement stops.
Resolution is 8192 counts per revolution with an accuracy of ±0.35° (±0.05° is under development). The position range is ±262144 motor revolutions (±2^18).
Advantages of Integrated Motors
One of the big advantages of using the integrated MAC motor®s is that you do not need to install a separate servo driver or controller in a control cabinet. This gives you many subsequent advantages: Space savings in your control cabinet, saving of expensive motor and encoder cables, saving time (and money) for cabling, electric noise is minimized due to internal cabling inside a metal housing and furthermore, installation errors between driver and motor are eliminated.
In addition, service is much easier since the motor and controller can be replaced as a single integrated unit. Hence, downtime is minimized and production time is maximized.
The MAC motor® series uses a modular design where you install the control module needed for the application – no matter if it is a stand-alone axis or a multi-axis system running CANopen, Ethernet, BlueTooth or WLAN.
Industrial Ethernet
If you use industrial Ethernet then functionality and handling is similar for all supported protocols: Profinet, EtherNet/IP, SERCOS, EtherCAT, Powerlink and Modbus TCP/UDP.
Using JVL’s universal software MacTalk® you can even change between the different Ethernet protocols just by making a firmware update—it is free-of-charge and you can do it as many times as you like.
All Ethernet modules have built-in Ethernet switch making cabling easy: you can daisy-chain Ethernet cables from motor-to-motor.
Graphical Programming
In stand-alone applications you will undoubtedly like our graphical programming environment ePLC™. Writing embedded PLC programs is very easy and can be done even by end-users. You do not have to be an experienced PLC programmer to make ePLC™ programs: the icon-based graphical programming environment does the job for you. Just click on the command icon you want and the program line is created for you.
Programming is similar for all integrated motor families: QuickStep®, ServoStep™ and MAC motor®.
No matter the number of I/O points in the actual motor, each digital input and output and analog input can be used in the program: you can query single or multiple input conditions and branch accordingly to other parts of your program. Motion commands are available with different kinds of relative or absolute movements. Jumps and IF commands, timers and other functions are also available as well as register calculations.
All registers and parameters in the motor can be accessed and most can be changed if required.
Connect a suitable color touch operator panel (HMI) and the operators can key-in values and parameters to the motor as well as monitor operations.
